Low Cost Counseling Services and Training Program

What is a Masters Level Intern?A Master's Level Intern is a clinician in the final stage of their education and is accruing the required hours to graduate with their Master's Degree. They have participated in a semester of practicum, where they have provided counseling in their University's Community Counseling Center. The interns in my practice are all directly supervised and trained by myself, Sybil Cummin, MA, LPC, ACS and Sabrina Merz, MS, LPC to provide the best care for each client they work with.
Why should I work with an intern? There are several reasons why choosing to work with an intern may be a good fit for you and your family. First, you will receive wonderful care and counseling at a more affordable cost. The sliding scale for a Master's Level Intern is income based and runs between $40-65/session. If you do not have mental health coverage with your health insurance, you do not like the choice of therapist's in your network, and you cannot afford $100+/session, then working with an intern is a good choice. Another reason to work with an intern is they may have more availability to provide afternoon/evening and weekend sessions
What should I expect if I choose to work with a Masters Level Intern at Arvada Therapy Solutions? You should expect a clinician that will listen to what you want different in your life and will work collaboratively with you to reach your goals. In addition to expecting a positive counseling experience, your intern will occasionally video tape or audio tape your sessions to use in supervision with me. These video tapes provide direct observation of the counseling process to allow me to best give direction to the intern. These videos will be erased within 30 days of being taken and will only be observed by myself and the intern. There may also be a time when I use direct observation where I am observing your clinician in the room during your session. I may offer my observations or suggestions during the session, or I may stay quiet during the session. Remember, I am observing your clinician, not you during this supervision process. This allows me to provide the best supervision and ongoing training for your clinician.
If one of your sessions will be video taped or if I will be attending one of your sessions, there will be a discussion before it occurs. As it may increase your nervousness to have another clinician as a part of your session, your clinician may be nervous as well. The goal for this observation is to provide the best services to you and your family. How long do your interns work at Arvada Therapy Solutions?Interns are required to work at Arvada Therapy Solutions for 10-12 months depending on when they begin and based on client need. The average length of cases that come through Arvada Therapy Solutions is between 8-12 months time. Some clients are seen for less time, some for longer, and some come bi-monthly. The length of time a client is seen is based on client need rather than a set length designated by the therapist ahead of time. It is possible that if you need longer term treatment, you will transfer clinicians as one intern graduates.
